Steven Donziger: This trial was purposely held in a region of the country with deep ties to the fossil fuel industry.

This is the website for the attorneys who are independently monitoring the trial in Energy Transfer v. Greenpeace for due process violations and abuses of power. The trial started February 24 in state court in North Dakota and ended on March 19 with a judgment against Greenpeace. The appellate process is expected to take at least one year.

Greenpeace has alleged that Energy Transfer’s $300 million claim against the environmental group is a SLAPP harassment effort designed to silence the organization and weaken the entire climate justice movement. The rights of free speech and fair trial are at stake - not just for Greenpeace, but for all advocates regardless of political orientation.
